HOW IS THE EASTTOWN DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE ORGANIZED?

The Easttown Democratic Committee operates under it’s by-laws which can be read by clicking on this PDF link:  By Laws Easttown Township Democratic Committee.

The Committee includes:

    • Chairperson (often called a Zone Leader because Easttown is one of twenty zones in Chester County)
    • Vice-Chairperson/Assistant Zone Leader
    • Secretary
    • Treasurer
    • Committee People – two elected per precinct so 14 in total. In addition, there can be up to 7 appointed “At Large” Committee People.

COMMITTEE PEOPLE – The role of a Democratic Committee Person is to be the Democratic neighborhood representative for each precinct. Those on the Committee have voting rights in local party policy decisions and internal elections, as well as voting rights within the Chester County Democratic Party for endorsing candidates, etc. Committee people’s responsibilities include:

    • Get Out the Vote – Convince all Easttown Democrats to vote for Democrats in all primaries and general elections
    • Attend Monthly Committee Meetings
    • Identify and Encourage Potential Candidates to Run for School Board and Township Offices
    • Staff the precinct polling places and work as “Greeters” for every primary and election
    • Vote on electing Chester County Democratic Committee offices

JUDGES, INSPECTORS AND POLL WORKERS – Each voting precinct also needs a team of people who work inside the polling place every election to check in voters and ensure that the election process runs smoothly. There are generally 3 elected workers inside every poll that “oversee” the voting: A Judge of Elections, and up to two Inspectors – a Majority Inspector, and a Minority inspector.  Up to two Poll Workers, who are not elected but appointed by Chester County Voter Services, may often assist elections.

  • JUDGE OF ELECTION – The Judge is in charge of all Election Day precinct activities and elected to four (4) year terms for each precinct. The Judge oversees all activities at ta polling location and handles any problems.
  • INSPECTOR OF ELECTION – There can be up to two (2) Inspectors of Election positions for each precinct, a Majority Inspector and a Minority Inspector. Both inspectors’ positions are elected to four (4) year terms. The candidate receiving the most amounts of votes becomes the Majority Inspector, while the candidate that receives the second most votes becomes the Minority Inspector (this is NOT restricted by party affiliation.)
  • POLL WORKERS – Poll workers check-in voters and take care of the voting machine. Contact Chester County Voter Services if you would like to be a poll worker.
