APPOINTED BOARDS & COMMISSIONS

The Township Code and other state laws allow the Easttown Township Board of Supervisors to enlist the help of capable citizens through the creation of boards and commissions. These boards and commissions provide a wonderful opportunity for citizens to become more directly involved with their local government.

Though the boards and commissions are not “political” in nature,  we believe that roughly half of all appointments should be Democrats and Independents since they now account for 53% of registered Easttown voters.  As the Pennsylvania Township Supervisor’s Handbook states:  “Appointments to boards and commissions should reflect the township’s diversity, including individuals from different neighborhoods that have varied interests and backgrounds.

Unfortunately, the current Supervisors have chosen to disregard the guidelines of the Pennsylvania Township Supervisor’s Handbook. The make-up of Easttown’s Boards & Commissions DOES NOT reflect the township’s diversity which is shown in the following tables (updated through August 19, 2018):

Easttown Planning Commission

The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on all land development and subdivision applications that are submitted to the Township. The Planning Commission plays an important role in developing the Township’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, as well as keeping the Subdivision and Land Development Codes up to date and in compliance with Pennsylvania’s Municipalities Planning Code (MPC). Members are appointed for a 4 year term length.

Parks and Recreation Commission

The Parks and Recreation Board makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for the Township historical and recreational assets, recreational programs, and Township-owned open space. Members are appointed for a 5 year term length.

Historical Commission

The Historical Commission serves in an advisory capacity for historical preservation information facilitation to citizens of the Township. Members are appointed for a 3 year term length.

Zoning Board

The Zoning Hearing Board hears and decides applications in accordance with the Municipalities Planning Code. It is a quasi-judicial body whose decisions are not subject to the approval of the Board of Supervisors. The Zoning Hearing Board consists of three members appointed to 3-year overlapping terms and two alternates appointed to 3-year terms.

Citizens Advisory Commission

The Easttown Citizens Advisory Committee (ECAC) is comprised of 5 to 9 members, serving 2 year terms, and are appointed by the Board of Supervisors because they possess skills, including, but not limited to: accounting, human resources and benefits, information technology, insurance, risk management, labor relations, management, and procurement.
