YOUR EASTTOWN ELECTED OFFICIALS

EASTTOWN TOWNSHIP BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Easttown Township, a second-class township under Pennsylvania law, is governed by a 5 member Board of Supervisors. The Supervisors, who are all elected at large, serve staggered terms of 6 years with elections occurring in odd years (2019, 2021, etc.) Detailed information about how townships operate in Pennsylvania and the role of the Supervisors is available in the March 2018 Pennnsylvania Township Supervisor’s Handbook.

Currently, all the supervisors are Republican even though Democrats (37%) and Independents (17%) acccount for 54% of all registered voters in Easttown Township. Two Supervisor positions will be up for election in 2019 so please consider running for Township Supervisor and let’s get some Democrats representing us in Easttown!

*In 2018, a Democrat won this vacancy but was unable to assume office for personal reasons. Despite major opposition, and with no explanation or transparency, the rest of the board appointed a Republican rather than a Democrat to serve in the vacancy until the next scheduled Board of Supervisor election which will be held in 2019.

APPOINTED BOARDS & COMMISSIONS – The Township Code and other state laws allow the board of supervisors to enlist the help of capable citizens through the creation of boards and commissions. These boards and commissions also provide a wonderful opportunity for citizens to become more directly involved with their local government. Check this table for a listing all the members, term ending dates, and party affiliations of current appointed boards.

The current boards and commissions for Easttown include the:  Easttown Citizen’s Advisory Committee, Historical Commission, Library Board of Trustees, Library Foundation, Municipal Authority, Parks & Recreation, Planning Commission, Vacancy Board, and Zoning Hearing Board. If you’re interested in joining any of the boards and commissions, please let us know and start attending some of the meetings. Though the boards and commissions are not “political” in nature,  we believe that roughly half of all appointments should be Democrats to reflect current voter registration levels. As the Pennsylvania Township Supervisor’s Handbook states:  “Appointments to boards and commissions should reflect the township’s diversity, including individuals from different neighborhoods that have varied interests and backgrounds. ”

EASTTOWN TOWNSHIP BOARD OF AUDITORS

Auditors are elected officials who serve staggered 6-year terms. They are responsible for conducting the annual audit of township finances. As permitted by law (Section 917 of the Pennsylvania Second Class Township Code), the Board of Supervisors may contract with a certified or competent accountant or firm to conduct the audit, according to generally accepted principles of accounting. The Audits for the Easttown Township, Easttown Municipal Authority, and Easttown Library and Information Center are performed by Maillie, LLP. The elected auditors set the compensation, including paid time off, of any township supervisors that are employed by the township.

EASTTOWN TAX COLLECTOR

Easttown has one elected tax collector who serves a four year term. The Chester County Treasurer collects real estate taxes. The tax collector also collects certain special township assessments. In addition, they can be appointed to collect certain taxes levied under the Local Tax Enabling Act, such as the per capita and local services taxes.

Evans Pancoast is the current tax collector. He is a Democrat and his term expires in 2021.

SCHOOL BOARD

The Tredyffrin/Easttown(TE) School District serves the townships of Tredyffrin and Easttown, encompassing 38 square miles in eastern Chester County. The TE School District is divided into three regions of nearly equal population with all of Easttown Township in Region 3.

There are nine members on the TE School Board serving 4 year staggered terms with elections occurring in the odd years (2019, 2021, etc.) Here is an excellent Guide to School Boards in Pennsylvania with information about the role of school boards and their elected officials.
