KATHY LEWIS for Easttown Supervisor

Kathy Lewis, longtime Easttown resident and community volunteer is the Democratic candidate for Easttown Supervisor. Kathy’s excellent technical and project management skills and her demonstrated talent for working effectively with people make her the superior choice for Easttown Township Supervisor.

Recently, the Supervisors announced an intention to enact an Earned Income Tax to address the township’s budget shortfall, estimated to exceed $1,000,000.  The meetings discussing the Earned Income Tax have revealed that township expenses have escalated dramatically over the past several years.   While revenues have dropped this year and are projected to drop next year, the Supervisors have not adjusted expenses to deal with falling revenues.  Instead, the Supervisors plan to implement a tax increase in some form.

The handling of these budget issues by the Supervisors underscores the need for a Democratic presence on the Board of Supervisors.  As Supervisor, Kathy has specific goals that she pledges to meet:

Kathy’s governance goals:

• ask the tough questions that aren’t being addressed by a one-party board while  acknowledging residents’ diverse viewpoints
• work tirelessly to do what is best for residents;
• explore ways to tap into citizens’ expertise, such as establishing an environmental advisory board.

Kathy’s financial goals:

• institute a line-by-line review of the budget, both income and expenses;
• insist that if new taxes are enacted, they will expire after one year and need to be reenacted;
• set up a permanent municipal finance advisory board for help with financial issues

Kathy’s communication goals:

• have transparent communication with residents;
• advertise ALL meetings in LOCAL news outlets, not out-of-town papers;
• reinstitute the Township Newsletter (email optional);
• ensure the newsletter includes finance discussions and other tough issues;
• collect residents’ emails to save money.

ANNE CROWLEY for School Board


Anne Crowley, MS Ed., MA, believes our public schools are the heart of our community. She will work to continue the educational excellence for which T/E is known while being a fiscal watchdog. “I want T/E to stand for ‘terrific experience’ for all our students. We must prepare them to be critical and creative thinkers, who are able to follow their dreams and learn the value of service to others.”Anne is an experienced educational and business professional, who has worked as a school psychologist, secondary teacher and education software marketing executive for a NYSE corporation. Her husband is a retired USAF officer. Anne’s two sons are graduates of Conestoga and she has relatives who are currently enrolled in the district. She was a PTA officer when her sons were in elementary school in Virginia. Currently Anne is the President of Anne Crowley Associates. She specializes in educating, organizing and engaging Pennsylvanians on environmental issues. She works with the Union of Concerned Scientists on the issue of federal climate and energy policy. JOE DIMARINO for School Board

Joe DiMarino , a Berwyn resident, is proud of the T/E School District’s success which makes our community an attractive place to live. As a School Board member, Joe will work to prioritize resources towards programs that get results and enhance the education of our children. During his professional career, Joe held various executive positions with Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc. (Owner of The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Daily News). He served as Budget Director and was responsible for overseeing the Operating and Capital budgets for this $250 million company. He was also President and CEO of the MediaStream Division of Knight-Ridder. Joe’s expertise in budgeting and management will allow him to contribute meaningfully to T/E’s $100 million budget process. “I am a firm believer in fiscal responsibility at all levels and will make this my highest priority as a member of the School Board. My finance experience will allow me to assist the board in making fiscally sound decisions, to the benefit of the students, teachers, and taxpayers.” Joe is a life-long resident of Easttown and Tredyffrin. A graduate of Conestoga H.S. and Villanova University, Joe and his wife, Joyce, have three children who attended T/E schools. Joe’s grandchildren attend T/E schools and his son teaches at Valley Forge Middle School.

Easttown Democrats Celebrate Election Success!

Congratulations!  Thanks in part to the efforts of the Easttown Democrats, President-Elect Barack Obama is the first Democratic candidate for President to win Chester County since 1964! As you can see from the chart below, Senator Obama won 50.6% of the votes in Easttown, a pretty amazing feat considering registered Democrats make up only thirty-five percent of the voters here.  For more detailed Pennsylvania election coverage visit, www.electionreturns.state.pa.us.

The Easttown Democrats organized an outstanding election effort.  Easttown Democrats staffed all of Easttown’s seven polling places for the entire day.  Friendly, helpful greeters met voters throughout the township, and poll watchers kept a careful eye on activity in all the polling areas.   “I want to thank everyone for their enthusiasm and teamwork,” said Marian Schneider, chairwoman of the Easttown Township Democratic Committee.  “We have more than 2,700 registered Democrats in Easttown and our base is solid and growing. With everyone’s continued support we can build on this success as we move forward.”

Here are some election results for Easttown Township:

The Chester County Democrats held a fundraiser on October 19 in Downingtown and the Easttown Democrats were in full attendance.  Featured guests included Governor Ed Rendell, Congressman Joe Sestak and Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch.  The event raised funds to help with the year’s important election on November 4.

The Easttown Democrats  kicked off the election season with a picnic and pool party at the home of Lisa and Steve Sugarman on Sunday, September 14.  More than 75 area residents and several local politicians attended, including U.S. Congressman Joe Sestak and Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone.  State Representative Candidate Carol Palmaccio was also there, and she talked with many Easttown residents about their concerns.  2008 election yard signs, bumper stickers and pins are available by e-mailing the Easttown Township Democractic Committee at info@easttowndems.org .

Please vote for Kathy Lewis for Easttown Supervisor.  She is running unopposed in the Democratic Primary, but it’s important to get out and show our support for her candidacy.
